Blockchain is a relativity new technology where an expanding list of transactions (blocks) are linked together chronologically to form a ledger. Decentralized by design, the ledger is distributed across a number of computers typically using a peer-to-peer network. Any one copy of the ledger can authenticate the true state of the ledger. Blockchain technology is implemented in a number of business applications and most commonly associated with virtual currency.
